We’ve put together a list of Melbourne Christmas carols happening this year to help you carol all the way to Christmas Day—well, almost all the way. Melbourne sure knows how to celebrate Christmas, from inner city and out to the suburbs. You are sure to find a family friendly event that suits you.  You might like to pack a picnic blanket and picnic food, or you might like to buy your food and drinks when you get there.

Each carolling event will take on a different format.  You may be able to finish your Christmas shopping at local markets, or stock up your Christmas treats at local community stalls.  These carolling events are often fundraisers for local community groups or charities so don’t be afraid to splash out.

Vision Australia’s Carols by Candlelight

Whitehorse Carols

Whitehorse Carols Melbourne

The iconic Whitehorse Carols in Melbourne is a fantastic fun-filled event for the whole family to enjoy. Santa Claus is coming to town and so are some of your favourite performers, helping everyone to celebrate Christmas at the Nunawading Civic Precinct! Santa and his elves will visit from 4.30pm for photos before leaving the Xmas carols in Melbourne for his around- the- world sleigh ride.

When: Saturday 16 December – 5:30 – 9:30pm

Monash Carols By Candlelight

Pack a picnic rug and head down to Jells Park on Saturday 2nd December to celebrate Monash Carols by Candlelight. The Pre-show activities and entertainment kick off at 5.30pm with one of Australia’s most entertaining children’s groups, Team Dream and Oakleigh Primary School Choir. The Monash Carols by Candlelight is a live captioned event. Candles, glow novelties and a selection of drinks and snacks will be available for purchase throughout the evening.

When: Saturday 2 December 5:30 – 9:15pm

Maroondah Carols

Take some time out to enjoy the festive season with your family and friends at the Maroondah Carols. Feast on our delicious donuts whilst and enjoy the pre-show entertainment (starts at 5pm) including music, a free kid’s zone and a spectacular firework show that will light up the Maroondah night sky. This is a free event.

Take your own picnic dinner or get something to eat from their barbecue and don your favourite Christmas outfit!

When: Saturday 2 December from 6pm

Family Christmas at Central Park

The City of Stonnington will host a festive celebration at Malvern East’s Central Park. Melbourne carols will ring out from the grassy park. This evening isn’t just about carolling though – there will also be loads of free craft activities. The event is also super family-friendly – there will be a play zone from the Stonnington Toy Library, performances tailored to little ones and of course a visit from Santa. To cap off the carols by candlelight Melbourne, there will be a big laser light show.

When: Sunday 10 December, Children’s Activities 6:30pm – 7:30pm, Carols 7:30pm – 9:30pm

Carols at Como Park

Escape the festive madness and enjoy an evening of Christmas carols Melbourne with family and friends. The City of Stonnington is presenting a night of Carols at Como Park, a spirited occasion that brings loved ones together to celebrate the spirit of Christmas. So pack your picnic, don the Christmas dresses, grab a rug, warm up your vocal cords and get ready to get into the Christmas spirit with some of Australia’s most loved performers.

When: Sunday 17 December, Roving performers 6:30pm – 7:30pm.  Carols 7:30pm – 9:30pm 

Where: Como Park, 305-325 Williams Road, South Yarra

Carols in the Park

The carols event at Dendy Park usually attracts about 20,000 visitors making it challenging to hold a major, open access event in a COVID safe manner. The new events program will include carolling and festive sound and light installations in Bayside’s open spaces and shopping precincts. The events program will kick off in November and run through to Christmas. Brought to you by Bayside City Council, it is one of a range of events that brings our community together. Join in to celebrate the holidays with your family and friends.

When: Tuesday 12 December – 5:30 – 9:30pm

Carols by Kingston

Families are invited to Bicentennial Park in Chelsea to enjoy the Carols by Kingston. There will also be a Christmas Gift Market, Kids Zone and a spectacular fireworks display to finish the night off.

When: Sunday 10 December from 6.30pm.

Banyule’s Carols by Candlelight

Get into the spirit of Christmas and head to the annual Melbourne Carols by Candlelight on Saturday 17th December. Held each December at a local park, this popular family friendly event includes activities and entertainment. Sing the night away with your songbook and LED candle.

When: Saturday 16 December – 5 – 9pm

Manningham Carols by Candlelight

Manningham’s largest free Christmas event, with kids’ activities, food, and a range of Carols to sing along to, there’s fun for the whole family and will be held on Friday 9th December. Manningham Carols by Candlelight begins at 6pm with a Kids Zone featuring free activities including face painting, jumping castles, entertainment, and photos with Santa. The main concert starts at 7:30pm and will include a mix of traditional and contemporary Carols.

When: Friday 8 December 6pm – 10pm
