I am from Europe originally. I left my home a long time ago and every time I spend the Christmas season in Australia (Melboirne) I find it hard to feel that it is Christmas and get into the spirit.
I know that many Europeans share the same feeling, and I would like to find a place where people who share my experience and background get together, or a place that recreates for us at least some of the elements of the Christmas spirit and atmosphere that we remember from growing up in a European home.
Is there a place like this?
Many thanks
Cri
Christmas is certainly different here. Ive had Christmas here and in Europe, its just different and will change as time goes on. Probably what you should be looking for is the Christmas fete at the German school in Brunswick. Not sure if it has been on since Covid though. My guess is the queen vic market would be the closest I felt in Germany out of the ones on the list here
There is a Scandinavian/Swedish market in Toorak and French markets at Alliance Francaise in St Kilda. You would have to do some research post Covid if back on. But this is Australia and customs are different that’s why it feels weird and a little strange to Europeans trying to recreate the same feelings of their former life.
